Sustainability: Art for a Greener Future

1628 is excited to announce the call to artists for our Spring 2024 art exhibition: Sustainability: Art for a Greener Future. Each year our Spring art exhibition is dedicated to showcasing under represented artists. For this exhibition we are looking for eco friendly-based, female and queer female aligned artists whose work encapsulates sustainable practices.

Join us in shaping a green future through art! Sustainability focuses on environmentally conscious artwork, in partnership with Indigo Hippo. Through the use of found objects, sustainable processes, and recycling, artists create pieces that raise awareness about sustainability and our impact on the planet.

But it’s not just about the art. We believe in fostering collaboration and community engagement. That’s why we’ve partnered with Indigo Hippo, an art supply store focussed on minimizing waste, and granting the community the opportunity to breathe new life into creative materials. Together, we can reflect on our lifestyles, embrace sustainable practices, and understand the impact of our choices on the environment.

By recognizing the transformative potential of art, we can pave the way for a greener future that thrives for generations to come.

The deadline to submit for the exhibition is Wednesday, August 30th, 2023 at 11:59 PM. The final decisions of the art to be featured will be decided by Wednesday, September 20th, 2023.

Address: 11 Garfield Pl. Cincinnati, OH 45202

Medium: 1628 Ltd. is accepting all mediums: painting/drawing, photography, mixed media, 3D works, etc.

Scale: Our gallery has multiple large walls that would be ideal for larger art installations. Submissions of large-format works or collections are encouraged. Generally, individual works submitted need to be minimally 11” x 14” for consideration.

Eligibility: Established and emerging artists are encouraged to apply with up to 4 works per artist. Works should promote productivity and inspiration for our members, be appropriate for a professional workplace setting, and be sturdy, durable, and ready to hang upon delivery (artwork should be ready to be hung with the appropriate hardware).

Entry fee: There is no entry fee for submissions.

Artist Commission: 1628 Ltd. is committed to supporting the local art community. Artists will receive 75% of the retail sale price while the remaining 25% commission is retained by 1628 Ltd. All pricing of exhibited artwork will be determined by the artist and published in the exhibition catalog.

Liability: 1628 Ltd. will ensure all work up to the listed retail price, and provides a secure facility that is not open to the general public. Professional installation and de-installation are provided.

Photography rights: Copyright and reproduction rights are reserved by the artist. 1628 Ltd. reserves permission to use images of the works for marketing and record-keeping purposes.
