Since launching the coworking space 1628 Ltd. last year, Tamara Schwarting has spent a lot of her time talking about coworking.
“In Cincinnati, coworking is a new brand category,” Schwarting told me. “We’re spending a considerable amount of time promoting the benefits of a shared professional environment to the broader community, as well as curating work of local artists.”
The coworking space at 1628 offers a number of different seating options.
Schwarting leased a 6,000-square-foot space at 11 Garfield Place for her coworking concept. 1628 is a coworking space geared toward consultants and mid-career executives as well as business travelers. It was designed with art as one of its main components.

1628 has a mix of open seating and technology-enabled conference rooms. The space is accessible to members. Memberships range from infrequent, part-time and daily access. 1628 also offers corporate memberships that allow a company to share a block of visits and amenities among a group of employees.
Currently, 1628 has 25 members. Schwarting’s target membership is between 130 and 150 members. At that level, she said the space would reach full occupancy because many members aren’t in the space all of the time.
“Without exception, everyone who has toured has commented on the attention to detail in our space design and amenities,” Schwarting said. “We have taken a different approach to coworking by placing a high level of focus on service.”
I reported on Schwarting’s plan to open 1628 last October. Schwarting, a former Procter & Gamble Co. employee, said as the Cincinnati market becomes more familiar with the coworking concept, 1628 will be in a position to take a lead role as a boutique-level coworking space.
